Dear Career Coaches:

My co-host, Nora Whalen, and I are delighted to announce that our Career Coach SIG speaker for Wednesday, June 10th, 2015 will be Ann Deaton, PhD, PCC, presenting: Coaching Your Clients to Value and Leverage Their Emotionsfrom 12:00 – 1:00 PM ET via phone (425) 440-5100, PIN 093980# or via the web at:  http://iTeleseminar.com/69460365.  (Note: You will receive 1 ICF CCU credit for this call if you attend live.)

Program Description:

Emotions are a central aspect of being human. Whether you call yourself a business or leadership coach, a personal coach, a career coach, a money coach, or something else entirely, you can expect that your clients will bring their emotions to your coaching sessions. How will you listen effectively to their emotions? What questions will you ask to grow your clients’ awareness around emotions? And how, as a coach, will you empower your clients to leverage the power of their emotions and minimize the downside, particularly of so-called “negative” emotions? This session is designed for coaches who want to develop their understanding of emotions in the context of coaching, improve their own distinctions among the myriad different emotions, and experience some tools for enabling your clients to have (and channel) their own emotions instead of their emotions having a hold on them. Participants will walk away with a new appreciation for the richness and power of emotions, and perhaps greater confidence in coaching with clients to leverage emotion for greater effectiveness.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define emotions in a way that is useful with respect to coaching
  • Understand the myriad of emotions, and two ways to distinguish among them
  • Identify the gifts and shadows of several frequently occurring emotions
  • Commit to playing with at least one coaching concept after the session to enable your clients to gain greater value from their experience of emotion
