Topic: The Gig Solution: Contracting Opportunities for Baby Boomer Clients

Description:

After obtaining a good education, climbing the corporate ladder, excelling professionally and getting paid well, many Boomer professionals are now finding themselves laid off, let go, severed, released – call it what you will. Continued employment has suddenly become at risk. The reasons are endless; global competitiveness, technology, mergers, downsizing, cost-cutting – it doesn’t matter. Global competition and technology have driven the need for responsiveness and agility, however, the US has lagged behind Europe in its appreciation for delegating work to business professionals willing to deliver results as contractors. Within the Baby Boomer generation, the apparent inability to find fulfilling work can be disruptive, if not downright depressing. Spunk understands first-hand the esteem issues associated with the outsider’s need to be part of a purposeful enterprise, and the desperation of seeing lifelong savings dissipate while trying to secure dignified work. He believes there is a solution, the Gig Solution: a self-sufficient methodology that promises abundant work, fulfilling challenges, rewarding income, and the security of a productive career until they are ready and able to retire.

You will learn:

  • The need to help Boomer clients identify their unique value proposition
  • The value of identifying projects instead of a singular focus on positions
  • Promising deliverables and offering an executable plan

About the Presenter:

Spunk Burke knows staffing. His legendary success and expertise spans three decades. Spunk got his official start in contract staffing fresh out of Babson Business School and he has been at it ever since providing engineering services, IT programming, distance learning, cad-cam design, healthcare, and other niche services.Spunk has been at the forefront of staffing innovation with an early online talent market and his adaptation and development of an Experience Supply Chain that enables infinite capacity. Back in 1976, Spunk owned the first agency in America to offer programmers on an hourly basis, and the idea developed into a 56-billion-dollar industry. In more recent times, the Boomer has assumed the focus of Spunk’s gig message, in that he truly understands the plight of business professionals over the age of 50. Spunk is steadfast in his optimism that contract business gig work will follow a similar growth path.

His unofficial entrée into contracting actually occurred while he was a student at Babson where he started and built a residential painting company to pay for school expenses; hiring classmates at a reasonable labor rate and selling his services at a competitive markup. Born of this early experience is Spunk’s keen awareness of the process required to identify and land customers who value the benefits of contracting work to qualified talent.

All the Best,

Nancy Cattle and Mike Gellman
